In 1987, the Commission launched the popular Olympic Day Run which takes place every year, celebrating the foundation of the IOC in 1894, and which is now arranged by 169 National Olympic Committees all over the world. The run over various distances is open to men, women and children of all ages.

Each year, the Sport for All Commission awards International Olympic Committee (IOC) patronage and financial assistance to three sport for all events in each of the five continents. These sports events can be drawn from a wide range of activities, the main selection criterion being that the event concerned must truly be open to all.
To enable all countries to benefit from this programme, a National Olympic Committee (NOC) which obtains IOC patronage may not submit a further request for a period of three years. Furthermore, to encourage and promote the holding of new events, a particular event may receive IOC patronage only once.
So far, more than 120 NOCs have benefited from this programme.
The Commission is composed of International Olympic Committee members, along with representatives from National Olympic Committees, International Sports Federations, the International Paralympic Committee and athletes.
